From a 2D concept or a written brief to a finished 3D character, sculpted with anatomy, surface detail and personality.

02 / MODELS

High-poly models with accurate anatomy and texture, plus lighter real-time versions for game engines.

03 / SCULPTS

Digital sculpts

Process

From 2D concept to 3D character

A turning-a-sketch-into-a-model process, step by step.

  1. STEP 01

    The brief

Reference images, a concept sketch and notes on how the character will be used.

  2. STEP 02

    Concept review

Proportions, silhouette and the details that must be solved in 3D, like the back view.

  3. STEP 03

    Blockout and sculpt

A rough form locks in proportions, then anatomy and surface detail are sculpted in.

  4. STEP 04

    Cleanup and texturing

The sculpt is prepared for its use and given colour, materials and fine detail.

  5. STEP 05

    Review and delivery

You review, ask for changes, and receive final files in the format you need.

How to brief a 3D artist

A good brief saves time and money on any commission. Gather these before you contact the studio.

  • Purpose and platformA game, an animation, a visualisation or a 3D print? This sets how detailed and optimised the model needs to be.
  • ReferencesConcept art, photos, mood boards and styles you like or dislike. Rough sketches help.
  • Views and posesFront, side and back views, and any pose or expression the character needs.
  • Technical needsPolygon limits, software or engine requirements and the file formats you need.
  • Timeline and budgetA realistic deadline and budget range, so the work can be scoped properly.
  • Usage rightsPersonal, commercial or resale use, agreed from the start.

High-poly or low-poly?

High-polyA dense mesh that captures anatomy, skin texture and small surface features. Right for detailed sculpts, close-up renders, showcase pieces and 3D printing.
Low-polyFar fewer polygons so it runs smoothly in real time, such as in a game engine. Much of its detail comes from textures.
Often bothA detailed high-poly sculpt is made first, and its detail is transferred onto a lighter low-poly version. Not sure which you need? Tell us where the model will be used.
